Drainage Case Study

Project: 1-2 High Street, Leatherhead
Client: P Colohan & Co Ltd
Service: Specialist Deep Drainage Connection in a Live Urban Environment

Loughman executed a critical deep drainage connection project at 1-2 High Street, Leatherhead, for P Colohan & Co Ltd, showcasing our specialised capability in complex underground infrastructure. The core challenge involved installing a 100mm direct combined connection into an existing, uncharted 100mm foul sewer, requiring a precise 3.5m deep, 1m wide, and 1.4m long excavation.

Our expertise in deep drainage was paramount, encompassing a thorough CAT scan survey to meticulously locate utilities, followed by the rigorous design and installation of temporary support measures for the 3.5m deep trench. This critical temporary works aspect ensured unwavering stability and worker safety throughout the deep excavation. Working within a confined urban space, Loughman deployed an experienced banksman to expertly manage operative and plant movement, maintaining stringent safety protocols. Furthermore, we implemented effective Chapter 8 traffic management with appropriate signage and bus stop suspensions to minimise disruption to the high street. The project was completed safely and efficiently, successfully delivering the deep drainage connection according to specifications and demonstrating Loughman’s proficiency in technically demanding below-ground works in challenging urban settings.
