SuDS & Landscaping Case Study

Project: Beckenham Place Park
Client: London Borough of Lewisham
Service: Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS)

As Principal Contractor for Lewisham Council’s Beckenham Place Park redevelopment, Loughman spearheaded a critical project focused on large-scale earthworks to implement advanced Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS). Our primary objective was to fundamentally reshape the landscape to effectively manage stormwater, significantly reduce flood risks across the park, and simultaneously create valuable new habitats.

This involved the precise excavation of over 27,000m³ of soil to facilitate the creation of extensive lowland meadows for natural flood attenuation and the construction of a new, ecologically rich habitat pond, both central to the park’s SUDS strategy. Loughman’s expertise ensured stringent compliance with CDM Regulations, including rigorous subcontractor selection and daily on-site supervision. Furthermore, we skillfully managed the discovery of asbestos contamination by implementing detailed soil tracking and a robust encapsulation strategy with specialist partners. Our comprehensive approach ensured the successful delivery of this complex SUDS initiative, demonstrating Loughman’s capacity for intricate environmental and water management projects.
