Parks Case Study

Project: Frank Banfield Community Park
Client: London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham
Service: Comprehensive Park Improvement and New Community Hub

Loughman successfully delivered a significant improvement project at Frank Banfield Community Park for the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, transforming the area into a vibrant and highly functional new community garden and hub. Our comprehensive works focused on enhancing the park’s overall utility and aesthetic appeal for residents.

The project involved extensive hard landscaping, including the installation of new footpath edgings and the construction of accessible pedestrian pathways using both block paving and reinforced gravel. We enhanced security and defined spaces with new metal estate and vertical bar fencing and gates, alongside the innovative installation of two prefabricated shipping containers repurposed as a vital park store and accessible toilet facility. Key environmental and recreational enhancements included the construction of a unique habitat wall, a raised pond with stone and sleeper retaining edges, and raised timber planting beds. Complementary soft landscaping saw the planting of wildflower meadows, general grass areas, orchard trees, and aquatic planting within the pond, significantly boosting the park’s biodiversity and visual appeal. Below ground, we installed new foul water and water connections, including a water storage tank, ensuring full functionality for the new amenities. Loughman meticulously adhered to a Construction Logistics Plan to minimise disruption in this busy urban environment and implemented robust site security measures. The successful outcome delivered a valuable new community facility and significantly improved park amenities, creating a vastly enhanced recreational space for all users.
