The project created new pocket parks and rain gardens, introducing planting, urban trees and seating into the town-centre environment. These green spaces were delivered alongside upgraded footways, pedestrianised junction areas and wider highway improvements.
The works included site clearance, drainage, earthworks, kerbs, permeable paving, reinstatement of failed paving, planters, benches and associated landscaping. The rain gardens and permeable surfaces helped manage surface water while improving the appearance and use of each location.
Before the main construction phase, T Loughman completed surveys, trial holes and utility investigations to support the detailed design. The findings were used to coordinate drainage connections, existing services, levels, falls, paving and landscaping requirements.
The works were carefully phased to maintain safe pedestrian access and minimise disruption to nearby businesses and properties. T Loughman coordinated its directly employed workforce, engineering support and specialist landscaping contractor to deliver the civil engineering, paving and green-infrastructure elements across the three separate work areas.
The completed scheme demonstrates T Loughman’s ability to combine public-realm construction, drainage and landscaping within a busy operational town-centre environment.
