Highways and Utilities Case Study

Project: Hunts Slip Road Active Highway Travel Improvements
Client: The Dulwich Estate
Service: Highway Infrastructure & Traffic Management

Loughman undertook comprehensive highway improvements at Hunts Slip Road in Dulwich, London, enhancing road infrastructure and active travel provisions across four distinct areas. This project’s core focus was on significant highway upgrades, including the installation of tactile paving slabs, the construction of new footways, and the creation of raised crossings to improve pedestrian accessibility and safety.

A key element involved the development of a dedicated cycleway and the adjustment of road markings to facilitate active travel.

Our extensive scope included critical preliminary works such as developing detailed construction and traffic management plans, executing precise engineering set-out, and conducting utility surveys. We were also responsible for significant drainage adjustments, the installation of bullnosed and transition concrete kerbs, and the application of a 20mm surface course AC6 dense surface across all improved areas. Loughman implemented comprehensive traffic and pedestrian diversion schemes to minimise disruption near a busy junction and closely coordinated with local statutory authorities for the safe relocation of lighting columns and Belisha beacons. This project highlighted Loughman’s expertise in delivering complex highway improvements, managing traffic flow, and enhancing urban road networks.
