The project comprised the creation of a new public square around Westgate Towers, together with the installation of Indian sandstone paving, granite sett carriageways and channels, highway reconstruction, drainage improvements, landscaping and tree pits, street lighting and traffic signals, signage and cycle parking, pedestrian crossing improvements and associated civil engineering works.
Working adjacent to the Grade I listed Westgate Towers within a busy city centre required carefully phased construction, traffic management and close coordination with stakeholders throughout the programme. Safe pedestrian access and access to local businesses were maintained while the works progressed, with deliveries and construction activities planned to minimise disruption.
The completed scheme has transformed the area surrounding Westgate Towers, providing a high-quality public realm that complements the historic setting while improving accessibility, pedestrian movement and the overall visitor experience.
